About ten years ago I found myself being exposed to medieval arms and
armor through room mates that participated in period events. T’was the
defence more then the offence that caught my fancy. The intricate patterns and
functional utility of chainmaille fascinated me. It wasn’t long before I was
weaving the stuff and learning that there was much more to maille then just
keeping the business end of a sword out of the wearers innards. From that
beginning, maille has lead me on an awesome journey. I’ve created jewelry,
show armor, live-blade fencing armor, adornments for glasswear and pottery,
adult oriented items, and even snowchains for a lawn tractor. I’m currently
instructing maille locally as well as leading an artisan group in Norwich and
online.

metalsmithing techniques. Copper is cut out by hand, filed, formed, folded and
textured pulling inspiration from nature and geometric forms. Vitreous enamel
(powdered glass) is fused directly onto the copper using a torch or kiln firing to
1500degrees Fahrenheit. This process adds layers of color and texture to the
piece. Enameled components are combined with sterling silver settings,
beads, found objects and findings to create one of a kind pieces of jewelry.

graphics.Tekla Zweir earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Sculpture from
the Lyme Academy College of Fine Arts in Old Lyme in1999. Upon graduation,
she travelled to San Fransisco and returned to pursue her artwork full
time as one of the original resident artists at the Hygienic Artists
Co-Operative in downtown New London. Tekla received an EE Ford grant to
study art and art history in Italy in 2007 and the Brian Carey Faculty
study award to study art and history in Mexico in 2008. Currently Tekla
teaches studio art at The Williams School in New London and continues to
exhibit locally. She lives in Quaker Hill with her husband, a musician and
member of the Wilson Kane duo, and their two children.

gift certificate to the raffle tent. Tickets are sold and can be placed in the cup
that corresponds to the raffle item the ticket-holder is interested in winning.
